Forward Movement

collective hope just
flew overhead—
squawking joy heading
southward
unmindful of heaviness below

“light as a feather”
indeed.
i sigh.
heavily.

collective hope on the move
honking gray heavy-bodied
lightness

it’s the beautiful
(though not perfect)
V
that finally draws my face heavenward

feathery breeze    carries away
burden shadows
(but not, of course, the burden)

yet reminds me
One named Love holds
them.
us.
all.

  • I always feel hope when I hear/see the geese flying south. The promise of flowers soon.
    Thanks for this reminder.

  • Here is something I heard about the flight of geese. The leader of the V changes from time to time; the geese in the back “honk” encouraging sounds; if one goose is injured and must drop out~ another will follow that one to the ground to be with it. Of course I don’t know if any of that is actually true, but it’s definitely a good metaphor for our own journey in life.

    • Yes–I’ve heard the same. I imagine there is much we could learn from the animal world about how to be in relationship with each other. I’ve been reading about elephants this week… another remarkable animal with loyal, compassionate, and cooperative traits.
