Mark and I are in the wonderful planting rush of May. Big strawberries are forming, the snow and snap peas have started to blossom, the potatoes, onions, broccoli, garlic, and greens look mostly amazing… Meanwhile this week we’re transplanting tomatoes, more broccoli, cabbage, lettuce, and planting beans, summer squash, more beets and carrots.
We’ve had an assortment of pest challenges this spring, which keeps us on our toes more than we’d like to be. The newest challenge is a squirrel that nibbled down all the lettuce. We’ve since covered the lettuce with a row cover and set a friendly trap that we hope will allow us to take the squirrel to a park which will provide it with an equally good home, although a less robust salad bar!
I’ll get back to writing more regularly here soon. But until then, I’ll use this mostly to post announcements about Fern Creek Cooking Classes, and CSA newsletters once we start up, which will be in a couple of weeks.
Speaking of cooking classes… we have a few spots left in each of the two Thai Cooking classes that Terrie and I will hold the end of May/beginning of June. If you are interested in attending, see the information below and let me know.
